the cast of cheers – family

these dublin boys are buzzing loudly across the seas. their debut is set to release sometime this year and if this first taste is any intimation of what’s to come, we are all in for a big treat. this track has an early police vibe meets futureheads. you can pre-order this single’s 7″ at rough trade. www.facebook.com/thecastofcheers

fort lean – sunsick

the brooklynites’ facebook page states, “fort lean is about getting too drunk at your own picnic.” play this energetic diddy and you could expect just that on your checkered blanket. this track is a new 7″ coming out at the end of the month. it packs a punch and should give you extra mid-week pep. www.facebook.com/fortlean

beach fossils – shallow

brooklyn’s beach fossils are working on their sophomore album and have released this track to remind us that despite all the members’ side project, the core group is still on point and we should all be bunching our panties in anticipation for the new album. this track is dreamy, jangly, and fuzzy, but most importantly, it does not disappoint. the single is out later this month. www.facebook.com/beachfossils

song of the day

rangleklods – young and dumb

band name, aside, denmark’s esben andersen is pretty impressive. he’s a one man act with some serious electronic skills. this track reminds me of lcd soundsystem, which is one hell of a comparison. it’s from his home ep released last year. his debut album is dropping next month and i’d keep my ears peeled. we could have another james murphy on the horizon. www.da-dk.facebook.com/rangleklods

the shins – wincing the night away – sleeping lessons

it’s 2007. james mercer and his albuquerque bunch release their third and final album for sub pop. i love this band. i love this song. it is gorgeous, epic, and untouchable. if port of morrow, their next album due for release next month, comes anywhere near as brilliant as this song. i’m sold.

superhumanoids – geri

i featured this l.a. trio last year. they have been hard at work on their debut album, exhibitionists, due out later this year, but they have released another dreamy morsel to keep us in check. this track unloads on you immediately, but the synths twinkle and it’s catchy as hell and should provide you with some excellent driving music. www.superhumanoids.com

mirel wagner – no death

this lady is from finland by way of ethiopia. her self-titled debut already saw a european release, but her album graces us here in the states next month. she’s been writing music since she was 16 and this is stark and stunning music. her voice is simple, yet memorizing and her lyrics tell a dark and haunting story that is sure to leave an impression. turn off the lights and enjoy. www.mirelwagner.com

electric guest – mondo – this head i hold

this l.a. duo’s debut album was produced by danger mouse. i could almost stop there, but i’ll give you a couple more morsels. these boys got mad soul and this tune is all kinds of energetic. fans of gnarls barkley should shine up their dancing shoes. the album is out in april. now, if danger mouse produces your first record, well, that must mean you ain’t not the shit, right? www.electricguest.com

air – le voyage dans le lune – parade

the championed french duo are releasing their highly anticipated album next week and another track has surfaced in the form of a video. “parade” is played over scenes from excursion to the moon, so it’s meant to juice us up for their take on georges méliès’ silent film.  i don’t need to sell you on how good the song is. it’s air kids. www.en.aircheology.com

song of the day

phèdre – in decay

their website states they are “three lovers from monaco, raised in a cave of gold.” two of those three lovers are also in hooded fang. their self-titled debut album is out digitally next month and their lead single is a stunner. this is surely one the slickest and quirkiest songs to come by in a while. it’s got some ariel pink flair, so throw on some glitters and strut your best. check out the song’s video below. www.phedreamour.com

the cult – love – she sells sanctuary

it’s 1985. the british lads release their sophomore album featuring their best and arguably most famous song. it’s got one of the most recognizable guitar melodies to come out of the 80s. i’ve many a happy and debaucherous memories with this song and lead singers just don’t wear white spandex anymore. just saying.
